Kittery's location on the shore of the Atlantic contributes to its overall charm and its blend of gracious historic homes and contemporary structures. Although fishing, ship-building and marine related industries have traditionally been the mainstays of Kittery's economy, it has also become renowned for its outlet malls lining Route One. Kittery has two elementary schools, a middle school and R.W. Traip Academy, the public high school.
